We have reached our hometown and it is freezing here – brrrrrr. We are happy to be home but are also sad to have left so many beautiful cities, people and adventures behind. What we are keeping with us are all the wonderful memories.
The last day eventful day we spent on our vacation was in Agra. We woke up around 6:15 in the morning and got ready for our eventful day. We were staying at my great aunt’s house and she organised a car service to take us to Agra. The car ride took about three hours and we were able to sleep and rest. Once we arrived in Agra we picked up our tour guide and drove to the Taj Mahal. Our tour guide gave us a magnificent tour and the story of the Taj Mahal was fascinating. We saw the king and queen’s tombs which were also very beautiful.
The Taj Mahal is made out of marble with gorgeous inlay work. After seeing the Taj we were taken to a workshop to see how they made the designs of the Taj. Apparently the same families who built the Taj are still working in this area by making beautiful pieces with marble inlay work like their ancestors did for the Taj.
The Taj Mahal was not were the queens and kings lived, so we also went to see the red fort in Agra which is where the royal family resided. The king who built the Taj was imprisoned by his own son in the red fort. We saw the room where he was kept and it had the perfect view of the Taj Mahal. The red fort was also very interesting to see and a nice stop.
After seeing so much, we said goodbye to our guide and decided to eat lunch at the most wonderful hotel, the Oberoi. It is such a rich, exclusive and classy hotel and our lunch there was so pleasant. I ate some Indian food and Richard decided to enjoy a club sandwich.
Afterwards we looked around the hotel grounds and from the tea room we had again a great view of the Taj Mahal. The Oberoi is a very grand hotel and we had such a fun time eating there.
Around 2:30 we were done with lunch so we decided to drive home. On the way home we talked about our eventful day, looked at the pictures we took and slept again.
If you are ever in New Delhi it is definitely worth going to Agra for the day and seeing the Taj Mahal. If possible go during the week. We went on a Monday and it was hardly crowded and one could totally enjoy the whole experience. I hope we can return to New Delhi soon and do some more sightseeing but for now we are happy campers at home!
