We had such a fun and exhilarating day!
Last night we arrived around midnight and it took us forever to get our luggage and go through customs. When we were finally out we grabbed the first cab we saw and drove to our hotel (JW Marriott Marquis). We were baffled by how much Dubai had changed just in one and half years. It’s unbelievable how this city is changing and growing in such a small amount of time.
When we arrived at the hotel it was about 1 a.m. and we knew we had to get up extremely early for our planned activities, so we decided not to sleep since we had to be up at 4:30 a.m. We were also starving so we ordered in room service for our midnight snack 🙂
Around 5:30 a.m. we were picked up by a very nice but quiet gentleman in our hotel lobby and taken to a van where the rest of the group was waiting for us. We drove for about 45 minutes. The sky was getting lighter and had a gorgeous aquamarine color as we arrived. In front of us there were giant hot air balloons being blown up. It was magnificent. Our guide told us some safety instructions and then we had some time to take beautiful pictures in front of the balloons as they started getting bigger, bigger and bigger. Then we quickly jumped in and we started to take off, slowly but surely.
The view from one meter above the desert as well as from hundreds of meters was absolutely breathtaking. We loved sharing this adventure together. Our group was also so kind and we had a very special passenger on board: Pikachu. Pikachu was our falcon that was accompanying us on the entire flight. Platinum Heritage is the only company in the world that offers the chance to fly with a falcon. This majestic creature was such a treat to have on board with us. The whole ride lasted one and a half hours. Landing was quite the experience in itself but in our case easy and fun! I can recommend a hot air balloon ride with Platinum Heritage any day.
Once we landed we drove with 1950 Land Rovers to a Bedouin camp in a conservation area. The ride consisted of lots of bumpy sand dunes but we had a blast. The Bedouin camp was arranged so beautifully and tastefully. There were lounge areas, tented areas and one was greeted with an interesting mix of tea/coffee and yummy dates. The breakfast buffet had lots of variety to choose from and we decided to have salmon, poached eggs on English muffins and freshly pressed orange juice. The buffet also offered caviar and fresh fruits.
We then had some time to take pictures and chat with some of the guides as well as visitors.
The day we had was truly wonderful and there isn’t a single thing we would change except for a teeny bit more sleep.
Now we are off to the Dubai Mall for one or two hours, then the pool at our hotel and then we are off to the airport to go to our next destination.
Fun Fact: The first passengers in a hot air balloon were a sheep, duck and a rooster.
